Job Summary

The Director of Nursing oversees and coordinates the functions and activities of the nursing department and other clinical operations. They consult with and advise hospital administration on overall operations, develop goals, policies, and standards for the nursing and clinical departments, and ensure compliance with legal, organizational, and medical standards. The role involves establishing and implementing standards of nursing practice, managing clinical and financial matters, and reporting to the Network Market Sr CCO / CCO.

Essential Functions

  1. Manage multiple subordinate department managers across various departments such as Nursing, Quality Management, Social Services, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, and Case Management. Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Regularly evaluate operations and report results to the Administrator.
  2. Develop and maintain a sound organizational structure, establishing policies for management development and succession planning. Implement procedures and controls to promote communication and effective information flow. Ensure operational policies align with broader organizational goals and are properly executed.
  3. Define and communicate the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates. Foster collaboration and cooperation among hospital departments. May assume administrative responsibilities in the absence of the Administrator.
  4. Promote staff development by creating a professional environment that encourages accountability and autonomy. Share knowledge and act as a role model and mentor to staff, students, and colleagues.
  5. Lead recruitment and retention initiatives for nursing staff, including planning and implementing innovative strategies. Oversee the interview and selection process for new nursing personnel.
  6. Provide leadership in human resource development, offering guidance and counsel to nursing staff. Maintain confidentiality of employee information and ensure effective communication across departments.
  7. Uphold and promote Equal Employment Opportunities and the facility's Affirmative Action Plan, demonstrating fairness and consistency in all actions.
