Job summary

A leading company in shipbuilding is seeking an Engineer to design and plan processes for ship construction and repair. The role involves working independently with general supervision and requires a Bachelor of Engineering. The Engineer will review designs, identify risks, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Job description

As an Engineer, you will design and plan processes, tools, and equipment needed for high-quality, efficient planning, construction, repair, testing/commissioning, and delivery of ships. This role requires applying practical job knowledge typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.

The Engineer works independently with general supervision and may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies, and practices. They are expected to work within an assigned scope in theoretical, practical, and/or lean engineering disciplines in a shipbuilding environment.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng) or equivalent
  • Understanding of how to apply standards relevant to the role, with guidance
  • General awareness of shipyard disciplines (hull structure, ship arrangements, ship piping systems, propulsion, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, producibility, manufacturing)
  • Some exposure to or interest in the marine field through work experience (e.g., co-op) or academic study
  • Ability to read blueprints, navigate within a 3D model and/or simulation of the ship
  • Develop or markup drawings; conduct technical investigation and data analysis under supervision
  • Analytical problem solving under supervision; develop presentations and reports
Responsibilities

  • Review detailed design information using the 3D model, 2D drawings, and production bill of materials
  • Review and resolve engineering defects related to the ship's design
  • Identify risks within their job scope, function, or the broader engineering discipline
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within their job scope and the broader engineering discipline
