Accounting Manager – R.J. MacIsaac Construction Limited (RJMI)

Antigonish, Nova Scotia

R.J. MacIsaac Construction Limited (RJMI) is seeking an Accounting Manager to join their growing team. They are looking for an ambitious, self-starter to support the accounting function of the company, while also providing leadership and guidance to the finance team, as they continue to grow and explore exciting business opportunities.

RJMI is an innovative marine contractor specializing in responsible ship recycling, marine construction, demolition, installation and repair projects. For over 40 years RJMI has delivered commercial and industrial projects in Atlantic Canada including both ship and Oil and Gas recycling and disposal, dredging, construction of breakwaters, wharfs, subsea pipelines, sub-sea cable installation and underwater drilling, blasting and concreting.

In this role, they are looking for a financial professional, interested in a hands-on role, to support the financial needs of this growing business. The successful candidate will actively work to facilitate timely and accurate management and financial reporting, while providing oversight and support to the full-cycle accounting function. Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously enhance the accounting functions of the organization, including monitoring and reporting financial performance
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly / quarterly / annual external and internal financial reporting related to the financial position of the organization including revenues and expenses
  • Ensure month / quarter / year-end processes are completed in a timely manner to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Ensure that all financial and non-financial reporting requirements are met on a timely, regular basis and in accordance with appropriate Accounting Standards.
  • Manage the preparation of financial forecasts for the organization including the consideration of historical results and future assumptions
  • Prepare budgets for expenditures of the company for approval of the owners
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, budgets and actual expenditures
  • Provide oversight, guidance and training to accounting employees to enhance capabilities and ensure accuracy and consistency throughout the department
  • Direct supervision of all accounting functions, including the oversight of the monthly close process, financial statements, financial reporting / analysis, payroll, collection / accuracy of accounts receivable, and supervising accounts payable
  • Oversee all banking arrangements including required reporting and ensuring on-going covenant compliance
  • Support facilitation of auditing conducted by third parties to ensure effective resolution and swift closure of auditing activities
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality and discretion regarding business operations and information gathered through the performance of assigned job responsibilities
  • Oversee accounting and finance oversight of Owners investment in other ventures
  • Other duties, as may be assigned by Leadership and Owners

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or similar, with a major in Accounting or Finance
  • Possession of a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA), an asset
  • 2-3 years management or finance experience in a similar role or with a public accounting firm
  • Demonstrated professional development and career progression
  • Experience working to support a growing family enterprise is considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of finance, budgeting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and Full cycle accounting
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
  • Familiarity with the Viewpoint Spectrum ERP software package would be considered an asset
  • Strong degree of technical comfort in the use of various financial management and reporting platforms
  • Ability to think outside the box and work in a ‘hands on’ role
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Must be able to adapt and operate effectively within new and challenging environments
  • Strong work ethic with personal drive for success
  • Must possess excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills.

This role will be ideal for a finance professional looking to take that next step in their career, or a recently designated accountant who is looking to transition to industry. You must have strong communication skills, coupled with technical writing competencies, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Management and other employees.
