HR Manager

Internal Title: Employee Supports Manager

Reporting to Director of People & Organizational Development. The Employee Supports Manager (Wîcihitowikamik) oversees the human resources and employee wellness functions, ensuring a positive and equitable experience across the employee life cycle. Working collaboratively with leaders, the Employee Supports Manager provides guidance on HR best practices, problem-solving, and risk mitigation while promoting a culture of wellness and continuous improvement. The role will contribute to effective performance management, recruitment, and wellness initiatives. A focus of this role is ensuring that Indigenous perspectives are incorporated into the organizational policies and practices of Employee Supports, working with internal cultural teams and knowledge keepers.

Position Responsibilities
  1. Oversee employee onboarding and ensure compliance with legislative and accreditation requirements
  2. Coordinate the recruitment cycle and related initiatives
  3. Review and maintain HR policies, integrating best practices and Indigenous ways of knowing and being
  4. Collaborate with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to embed Indigenous knowledge into HR practices, the employee life cycle, and wellness programs
  5. Identify and address risks and gaps in HR procedures for continuous improvement
  6. Work with payroll on HRIS updates; ensure accurate job descriptions and data integrity
  7. Supervise leave, WCB, and termination processes, ensuring compliance and cultural consideration
  8. Manage compensation plans, including wage bands, policies, and management training
  9. Stay current on HR trends, legislation, and inclusive practices
  10. Lead training initiatives, manage government grants, and foster university partnerships
  11. Support performance management and employee development through equitable and culturally grounded approaches
  12. Lead the HR team with a compassionate, culturally safe approach, offering regular check-ins and supervision
  13. Provide support in resolving escalated HR concerns and conflicts
  14. Contribute to internal HR reporting and participate in leadership meetings
  15. Build partnerships with Indigenous communities and external organizations
  16. Support organizational and HR projects aligned with cultural safety and reconciliation
  17. BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking, etc.
Qualifications
  1. Degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or a related field. Candidates without a degree but extensive relevant experience will also be considered
  2. 1 year’s experience in a leadership role preferred
  3. 5-7 years’ experience at the HR Generalist or HRBP level
  4. CPHR designation or working towards is preferred
  5. Experience in social services or a non-profit environment is considered an asset
  6. Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
  7. Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
  8. Some travel to other sites located throughout is required
  9. Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset
