Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking an Autism Therapist for the McMaster Children's Hospital Autism Program. The role involves providing treatment services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families, including workshops and training. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in Applied Behaviour Analysis.
The McMaster Children’s Hospital Autism Program is an ambulatory service for children and youth with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. These services have strong links to McMaster University’s Departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry, McMaster Autism Research Team (MacART) and the Offord Centre for Child Studies.
Position Summary
Working in the McMaster Children's Hospital Autism Program, the Autism Therapist will develop and provide treatment services and supports to children and youth (up to age 18) who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and their families. Services will may be provided in groups as well an individually. Parent workshops and training will be an integral component of the services. The Autism Therapist will work as a member of an integrated service delivery team within The McMaster Children's Hospital Autism Program.
Schedule Work Hours
Monday to Saturday; days and evenings; 37.5 hours.
Qualifications
1. Undergraduate degree or college diploma with comparable training in a related field; Focus of studies should be in human behaviour and / or developmental psychology; Autism and Behavioural Sciences certificate preferred
2. Sound knowledge of the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis
3. Board Certified assistant Behaviour Analyst (BCaBA) preferred
4. Two years clinical experience in providing Applied Behavioural Analysis services or supports for individuals with autism
5. Experience with providing parent education workshops or parent training for families of children or youth with autism
6. Experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
7. Personal and professional skills (maturity, patience, etc) for work with clients with autism, parents and other service providers
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
9. Computer skills and experience with data collection and management
10. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
11. First Aid / CPR training
12. Valid drivers license and use of a vehicle
13. Bilingual fluency in French would be an asset
14. Must be able to obtain a valid Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS)
