Job Summary

At the Centre for Advanced Analytics, Data Science, and Innovation (CAADSI) of Fraser Health, we are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Director of Data Engineering, this role involves developing and maintaining ETL pipelines, creating data models, and supporting a hybrid cloud infrastructure. The Senior Data Engineer will lead initiatives in data strategy, analysis, integration, and management, significantly impacting our data products and infrastructure.

Job Duties

• Lead the evolution and ensure the performance of our CAADSI Data Lake.
• Prepare technical documents and oversee technical issues.
• Identify areas for improvement and provide solutions.
• Coordinate cloud migration from on-premise SQL servers to MS Fabric.
• Collaborate with data source teams and stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Develop and align ETL / ELT processes with architecture.
• Perform complex programming and data structure modifications.
• Improve code quality and learn new technologies.
• Translate business needs into technical solutions and best practices.
• Work with cross-functional teams to develop optimal solutions.
• Anticipate system challenges and propose solutions.
• Contribute to work estimates, design, and code reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health Information Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Seven (7) years of experience in a large, complex organization.
• Strong understanding of modern data platforms and experience in assembling large datasets using various programming languages.

Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.

Preferred Experience

• Five years of data engineering experience or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with scripting, analytics, Microsoft Azure, and BI tools.
• Knowledge of data lakes, data warehouses, and large data set assembly.
• Skills in data integration, modeling, orchestration, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure DevOps, Data Factory, and Synapse is a plus.

Work Location and Environment

This position is based at our Central City office in Surrey, BC , with options for remote or hybrid work.
