Position Summary

The Health Sciences Division at JIBC is dedicated to training, emergency medical responders, paramedics, and regulatory practitioners. We are currently in search of an exceptional educational leader, with a passion for excellence in post secondary paramedic education.

The Lead Instructor, Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) plays an essential role in delivering high-quality paramedic education, ensuring alignment with evolving industry standards, and fostering student success. In this position, you will deliver PCP program content through dynamic instructional methods, including both online and classroom delivery. You will oversee the daily delivery schedule, supervise sessional faculty to maintain consistent program standards, and mentor new instructors. Additionally, you will ensure the proper care and use of program equipment and contribute to the continuous enhancement of teaching practices.

Supporting students throughout their academic journey is a key aspect of this role. You will evaluate student progress, provide personalized feedback, and meet with individuals to discuss their strengths and areas for improvement. By identifying at-risk students and facilitating necessary resources such as tutorials and retests, you will help ensure their success. You will also act as a critical link between students and program leaders, managing communication and ensuring resources are effectively allocated.

This position also emphasizes collaboration and program development. You will participate in curriculum development, program reviews, and accreditation processes, while staying current in the paramedic field and refining your expertise in education and leadership. Working closely with the Health Sciences Division team, you will support integrated learning and contribute to the evolution of the PCP program. For individuals with extensive experience as a Primary Care Paramedic, strong leadership abilities, effective facilitation skills, and a passion for teaching and mentoring, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of paramedic education.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Recent (within the last five years) professional experience as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) or higher-level Paramedic
  • Completion of JIBC’s INDC-1110 Essential Skills for Training and Facilitation course, or equivalent training in Adult Education and instructional design would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using learning technologies and applying diverse supervision models.
  • Proven experience as an instructor, evaluator, or in a similar role delivering courses such as Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), and/or First Aid.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, web browsers, mobile devices, and Blackboard learning management systems.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure and respond to diverse student needs.
  • Sound judgment and sensitivity in addressing complex and nuanced situations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required, with occasional responsibilities to support instruction at other JIBC campuses.
