Your role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Digital Writer with strong journalistic skills and digital news experience to join the ICI Grand Nord team, which includes videojournalists and reporters across Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Nunavik. The role is based in Whitehorse (preferably) or Yellowknife, and involves writing and editing original articles daily, covering stories relevant to all territories, including environment, economy, politics, social and Indigenous issues, and the French-speaking community.

The position requires creating and coordinating digital news content, adding multimedia elements, editing team members' work, and managing assignments efficiently. This is a full-time, on-site role, Monday to Friday, with potential overtime and scheduling adjustments based on operational needs. The role involves collaboration with reporters and videojournalists, adhering to CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic standards.

Key tasks:
  • Write digital copy for daily and breaking news stories.
  • Select multimedia content to accompany stories.
  • Conduct interviews and write/edit content for various platforms.
  • Prepare articles and headlines from various sources.
  • Edit and review content produced by others.
  • Manage daily assignments and perform related tasks.
Your profile:
  • University education in journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience with online/digital media and news writing.
  • Strong editorial judgment and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada standards.
  • Ability to respond quickly to breaking news.
  • Excellent knowledge of current events, especially in Canada’s Far North.
  • Knowledge of the Far North, Indigenous communities, Canadian politics is an asset.
  • Cultural sensitivity and familiarity with minority language issues.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple stories.
  • Fluent in English and French (spoken and written).
  • Familiarity with production tools (asset).
  • Proven digital writing and editing skills.
