Your role
We are looking for a Senior Producer to oversee a team of videojournalists and reporters located across the three Canadian territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut) and in Nunavik.
The working language is French, and you will be based in Yellowknife (preferably) or Whitehorse. The office is located inside the CBC North building. You bring an understanding of the challenges inherent in the Far North and life within isolated communities, demonstrating strong resilience.
You will be responsible for the daily assignment of the team, production follow-ups and the planning of cross-platform content and field deployments for ICI Grand Nord. Your role will be to cover current events and topical issues affecting the territories, as well as the challenges of Canada’s Far North, ensuring follow-up to promote our content across the network. Priority will be given to digital content that will enhance the
ICI Grand Nord page.
Your team will tell a wide range of stories, touching on the environment, the economy, politics, social and Indigenous issues, and the French-speaking community. You will report to the Senior Manager, Strategy and Development, for the Far North, Alberta and British Columbia.
You will be expected to work strategically with internal and external partners to plan and promote cross-platform content nationally, as well as with CBC North. Adopting a collaborative approach, you will also attend CBC North assignment meetings and share your team’s findings with colleagues from the English network.
The successful candidate will be a creative idea generator who thrives on reporting breaking news as well as covering original or developing stories.
Work must adhere to CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices, and you must lead your teams to ensure that this occurs.
While the job requires the ability to think strategically, you must be able to make immediate decisions in complex and stressful environments. You need to be a strong motivational leader, capable of managing people as well as complex journalistic situations.
