Job description

New Westminster Schools are seeking a Casual Chef Assistant to join their team. This role reports to the Teaching Chef and supports meal preparation, student training, and kitchen operations.

Job Function

1. Assist the Teaching Chef in the training kitchen and cafeteria with daily meal production and service.
2. Help students learn proper food processing methods and evaluate products.
3. Support food control and ensure a continuous food supply during lunch periods.
4. Guide students in food production and cleanup activities.
5. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

1. Grade 12 graduation.
2. Two-year diploma/certificate in Culinary Arts or related technical training.
3. Vocational level certificate in Baking.
4. Food Safe Certification.
5. At least two years of industry experience, preferably in a school setting working with teens.
6. Good organizational skills and ability to work in a team.
7. Effective communication skills with adults and students.
8. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
9. Basic knowledge of accounting, spreadsheets, and databases.

Hours of Work & Salary

Casual shifts from 4 to 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday during school sessions. Short-term assignments may be available. Casual employment may lead to a regular position. The pay rate is $34.84 per hour.
