The Opportunity

The Cook works as part of the food and nutrition services team, performing tasks such as ordering, receiving, cooking, and presenting meals for residents, families, and staff. The role requires following proper food handling procedures, recipes, portion control, and maintaining high standards of food quality and cleanliness.

Responsibilities
  1. Prepare food items in a timely manner according to production schedules, recipes, and guidelines.
  2. Participate in meal service as required.
  3. Prepare regular and modified foods to meet resident dietary needs and recipe standards.
  4. Manage food and supply orders.
  5. Assist with receiving and proper storage of supplies.
  6. Assist with menu development as needed.
Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  2. Professional Cooking Certificate preferred.
  3. Food Safe Level 1 Certificate required.
  4. Provincial or vocational/professional certification or degree is an asset.
  5. Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  6. At least 2 years of experience as a Cook in a healthcare setting.
  7. Experience with ovens, steamers, meat slicers, deep fryers, tilt fryers, soup kettles, VCM, Robot Coupe, blenders, and mixers.
