Reports to : Senior Manager Validation
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities :
- Lead the development and implementation of the corporate regulatory compliance program for all product categories and facilitate all communications to stakeholders. This includes periodic update to the Senior Management Team about new regulations and compliance status.
- Monitor, interpret, and communicate changes to relevant regulatory standards (e.g., CSA, UL, DOE, EPA, REACH, RoHS, Energy Star). Monitor all relevant Government websites and RSS feeds as they relate to the selling markets, this includes Canada, USA, Europe, and abroad. Participate with industry advocates and open comment periods in regard to upcoming regulatory activity.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Prepares assessment reports determining the relevance, impact and affected parties, along with action plan and responsibilities for implementation.
- Serve as the primary internal subject matter expert on regulatory matters related to gas and electric products, components, and their related accessories, as well as any other products that are added to the company portfolio.
- Working with Quality Assurance, Validation, R&D, and Manufacturing teams, facilitate internal audits and readiness for external inspections or certification processes as they relate specifically to regulatory activities.
- Provide feedback on roadmaps for new product development and existing product updates and work closely with PMO, Innovations, Engineering, R&D, QA, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Marketing to help ensure product designs incorporate latest regulatory and safety requirements. Supports implementation of documented change requests per company procedures.
- Establish framework for restricted materials compliance process across all product lines. Assist Purchasing, Supplier Quality Engineering, and our Trading Company to ensure supplier compliance and documentation (e.g., declarations of conformity, materials restrictions). Source, generate, and maintain declarations of conformity and other evidentiary documentation for REACH, RoHS, TSCA, POP, safety standards, etc. Support Production and Market Surveillance audits and required actions as necessary.
- Communicate directly with regulatory bodies, testing labs, certification bodies and consulting agencies as needed to understand and to comply with the requirements.
- Coordinate submission of regulatory documentation and manage renewals or updates.
- Works closely with, coaches and mentors the Regulatory Compliance Coordinator or Administrator in all aspects and activities from review to communication, implementation and proper documentation of compliance
- Assign tasks, review outputs, and ensure alignment with department priorities.
- Foster a culture of compliance, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
Education and Experience :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Business, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in regulatory affairs, preferably in the consumer or industrial product manufacturing sector.
- Demonstrated experience managing compliance for gas and electric products under Canadian, U.S., and International standards.
- Experience working with certification bodies (CSA, UL, Intertek) and regulatory authorities (EPA, DOE, Health Canada, FDA).
- Certification in Regulatory Affairs (RAC) is an asset.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and regulatory documentation tools.
- Demonstrated capability to clearly and authoritatively communicate regulatory requirements, ensuring departmental accountability and adherence to compliance deadlines across the organization.
