As a Senior Underwriter, Construction, you will be at the forefront of analyzing and underwriting complex construction risks. What You’ll Do
- Complex Risk Analysis and Underwriting: Take charge of analyzing and underwriting complex construction risks, focusing on builder’s risk and wrap-up liability. Your expertise will guide the risk assessment process, ensuring thorough and reliable evaluations.
- Document Review and Information Gathering: Scrutinize submission documentation, including engineering reports, schedules / GANTT charts, and budget breakdowns. Utilize your keen attention to detail to request additional information as required, ensuring comprehensive and accurate assessments.
- Compliance and Standards Adherence: Ensure all activities comply with company standards, underwriting guidelines, and delegated underwriting authority contracts. Your role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of our underwriting processes.
- Carrier Collaboration: Prepare and submit detailed referral documentation to carriers, both domestically and at Lloyd's. Your diplomatic skills will foster productive relationships with carrier partners.
- Broker Partnership and Negotiation: Present quotations to broker partners, negotiating the best terms for clients. Your negotiation skills will impact client satisfaction and business success.
- Business Development: Play a pivotal role in soliciting new broker and carrier partnerships while nurturing existing relationships. Your networking ability will drive growth and expansion.
- Customer Service Excellence: Uphold high standards of customer service. Your commitment to client satisfaction will reinforce Totten’s reputation.

What You’ll Need for Success
- 5+ years experience in Commercial Insurance underwriting or retail broking with a focus on construction (builders’ risk, wrap-up liability, etc.)
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgment in risk selection.
- Decision-making skills and creativity in underwriting risks.
- Business development and sales experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with relationship-building focus.
- High standards of customer service and quality delivery.
- Leadership qualities with a passion for mentoring and team development.
- Knowledge of insurance industry regulations and compliance.
- Strong work ethic, organizational skills, and team collaboration.
- Experience with TAM or Policy Works broker management systems.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% for broker visits and meetings.
- Working towards or possessing CIP Designation.
- Willing to obtain RIBO License.
