JOB OVERVIEW: Associate Vice President, Finance

This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer, with direct supervision of the Directors of Financial Services, Director of Procurement, and the Confidential Assistant, Financial Services.

The AVP, Finance provides leadership in financial operations and reporting at KPU, focusing on modernizing budgeting, reporting, procurement, internal controls, and financial systems. They offer strategic insights to develop the university's budgets, cash flow projections, and investment strategies. The AVP ensures timely, accurate financial information for the CFO and executive leadership.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Graduate degree plus a Canadian professional accounting designation or equivalent experience;
• At least 12 years of finance experience, including 5+ years in senior or mid-level administrative roles in the public sector;
• Experience managing investment portfolios and conducting financial audits;
• Experience with public sector budgeting, reporting to boards, and governance compliance;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

• Political acumen and tactful communication skills;
• Experience managing diverse opinions and complex issues;
• Understanding of unionized public sector organizations and post-secondary institutions (asset);
• Proven strategic decision-making and organizational leadership;

Salary Information

The salary range spans from minimum to maximum, with typical hires starting around the midpoint. Salary increases are available through the Administrative Performance Management program.
