15 Wing, headquartered in Moose Jaw, is the centre of RCAF aircrew training and is comprised of 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (CFFTS) and 431 Air Demonstration Squadron (CF Snowbirds) both located in Moose Jaw, SK. The Wing is the principal site of the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC). 15 Wing is responsible for three different aircraft platforms that include: CT-156 Harvard II, CT-155 Hawk, CT-114 Tutor, and any visiting aircraft.

You will be part of a team that works closely with the military customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality and efficient Air Traffic Management System maintenance, Aeronautical information services and VFR air traffic services to DND's NFTC program. Serco Canada Inc. is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The successful individual will be responsible to maintain equipment; such as, but not limited to graders, back-hoes, dump trucks, airfield and domestic snow equipment, blowers, ploughs, sweepers, vacuum trucks, etc.

The hourly rate for this position is $38.68.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review work orders and discuss with Airside Services Superintendent / HD Mechanic Lead.
  • Inspect vehicle and equipment, road test and test systems and components using testing devices to diagnose and isolate faults.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of vehicle and equipment systems including fuel, brake, steering and suspension systems, transmissions, differentials, drive axles and shafts, emission control and exhaust systems, engines and electrical, and other specialized automotive repair equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s performance specifications.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrications and tune-ups.
  • Document work performed, general vehicle conditions and future repair requirements.
  • Train apprentices up to Journeyperson standard and endorse appropriate documentation.
  • Inspect and test mechanical units, such as engines, transmissions, axles and brake systems to locate faults and malfunctions and confirm findings with Airside Services Superintendent / HD Mechanic Lead.
  • Use hand and power tools as required in the performance of duties.
  • May be required to work offsite and at remote locations.
  • Complete and document inspection of vehicles and equipment being operated.
  • Report any vehicle and equipment defects and other problems to the Lead.
  • Complete operator maintenance such as cutting edge and sweeper bristle replacement, top-up of oils and lubricants, change tires on equipment and the general tightening and securing of parts and components.
  • May act as Lead when required.
  • Ensure POL checks are completed at beginning of each shift.
  • Record vehicle information required for statistics.
  • Attend courses as required by management.
  • Report all incidents/accidents to the Lead.
  • Operate light vehicles as required.
  • Operate Airfield communication equipment, if required.
  • Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Visibly demonstrate Serco Values and work practices while completing duties.
  • Responsible for recording time entries and work orders.
  • Other related duties relevant to this position as may be required.
Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid SK Journeyperson certificate in Heavy Duty Repair is required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 SK driver’s license is required. (Class 3 or higher is an asset).
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Ramp Defensive Driving Course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield is required.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test.
  • Ability to obtain DND 404 (if required) to operate Government owned vehicles (CFR Plated Equipment).
  • Previous experience operating equipment on an airfield environment would be an asset.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a Criminal Record Check (CPIC); Fingerprint Criminal Record Check; Reliability clearance.
