Job description

High Tide Inc., a leading cannabis retailer and accessory company, seeks a passionate and detail-oriented Retail - Health & Safety Advisor for our Calgary office. This is a new role to support our growing organization! You will be responsible for providing safety leadership, collaboration, support, and coordination throughout our company. This position will report to the Vice President.

  1. Lead the implementation of Health and Safety Management initiatives and processes to build an organization-wide safety culture.
  2. Develop company Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems, perform training needs analysis, and recommend changes to the business.
  3. Oversee incident documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory, internal, WCB, and safety inspector audits.
  4. Support incident investigations, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and ensure follow-up.
  5. Coordinate with the training team to ensure compliance and certification by province.
  6. Update OHS training certifications across all stores.
  7. Conduct monthly safety inspections and liaise with stakeholders on safety concerns.
  8. Ensure emergency evacuation plans are current and posted, coordinating with compliance and construction teams as needed.
  9. Develop and enforce protocols for near misses, robberies, and break-ins for operational leaders.
  10. Review and update working alone policies for all provinces.
  11. Analyze and report on safety performance and compliance data.
  12. Manage OHS inspector visits and ensure timely closure of contact orders.
  13. Oversee online safety compliance websites and training for retail staff.
  14. Handle complaints regarding right to refuse unsafe work, developing protocols with HR.
  15. Provide guidance on HSE issues, including compliance and incident investigation.
  16. Lead KPI processes, manage budgets, and develop action plans.
  17. Maintain safety policies and procedures, integrating them into business practices.
  18. Ensure compliance with Occupational Health Safety Act, Cannabis Act, Traffic Safety Act across provinces.
  19. Stay updated on HSE regulations, standards, and codes.
  20. Utilize strong computer skills, including MS Office.
  21. Manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  22. Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  23. Build effective relationships internally and externally.
  24. Familiarity with provincial OSHA inspections is an asset.
  25. Keep first aid certifications current.
  26. Obtain train-the-trainer certification as needed.

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in a similar role.
  • Experience in retail and distribution sectors is an asset.
  • Knowledge of cannabis legislation across provinces.

Education Requirements

  • Degree in a related field; certification in Occupational Health and Safety preferred.
  • Certifications like NCSO, CRSP, CTSP, or OHS preferred.
  • COR Audit certification through AMTA required within 6 months.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean police record.
  • Ability to obtain regional cannabis licenses in all provinces.
