Overview
High Tide Inc., a leading cannabis retailer and accessory company, seeks a passionate and detail-oriented Retail – Health & Safety Advisor for our Calgary office. This is a new role to support our growing organization!
You will be responsible for providing safety leadership, collaboration, support, and coordination throughout our company. This position reports to the Vice President.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of Health and Safety Management initiatives and processes to foster a safety culture across the organization.
- Develop and maintain company Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems; perform training needs analysis and recommend improvements.
- Oversee incident documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and facilitate audits by WCB and safety inspectors.
- Support incident investigations, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and ensure follow-up.
- Liaise with the training team to ensure compliance and certification across provinces.
- Update OHS training certifications for all stores.
- Conduct monthly safety inspections and communicate concerns with stakeholders.
- Ensure emergency evacuation plans are current and accessible at all sites; collaborate with compliance and construction teams as needed.
- Develop and enforce protocols for near misses, robberies, and break-ins with operational leaders.
- Review and update working alone policies for all Canadian provinces.
- Analyze and report on safety performance and compliance data.
- Manage OHS inspector visits and coordinate timely closure of contact orders.
- Oversee online safety compliance websites and training for retail staff.
- Handle complaints regarding unsafe work refusals nationwide, developing protocols in collaboration with HR.
- Provide guidance and support on HSE issues, including regulatory compliance and incident investigations.
- Lead KPI processes and manage budgets, including action plans for safety concerns.
- Maintain and oversee safety policies and procedures, integrating them into business practices.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Occupational Health Safety Act, Cannabis Act, and Traffic Safety Act applicable across Canadian provinces.
- Understanding of HSE regulations, codes, practices, and standards.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Interpersonal skills to build effective relationships internally and externally.
- Familiarity with provincial OSHA inspection and audit processes is an asset.
- Up-to-date first aid certification for all worksites.
- Ability to become a trainer as needed.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years in a similar role.
- Experience in retail and distribution sectors is an asset.
- Knowledge of cannabis legislation across all provinces.
Education:
- College or university degree in a related field; certification in Occupational Health and Safety preferred.
- Designations such as NCSO, CRSP, CTSP, or OHS preferred.
- COR Audit certification through AMTA required within 6 months of employment.
- Valid driver's license with a clean record and police check.
- Ability to obtain regional cannabis licenses in AB, BC, MB, SK, and ON.
