Position Description
As this industry-leader’s new Junior Mechanical Design Engineer you will be crucial in supporting the engineering department in designing, drawing, processing, and estimating jobs. To be successful in this important position, you will have sheet metal and metal fabrication experience, a background in mechanical engineering, and experience in a manufacturing or fabrication company.
- Assist in the design and development of metal stamped and machined components, assemblies, and tooling.
- Create and update 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Support senior engineers with mechanical design tasks, product development, and continuous improvement projects.
- Interpret customer specifications, technical drawings, and industry standards to develop manufacturable designs.
- Participate in prototype development, testing, and design validation activities.
- Work closely with production, quality, and tool room teams to ensure design intent is maintained throughout manufacturing.
- Contribute to the preparation of Bill of Materials (BOMs), technical documentation, and design reports.
- Assist in root cause analysis and corrective action related to design and quality issues.
- Ensure all designs meet applicable safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Stay current with emerging manufacturing technologies and engineering best practices.
- Participate in project meetings and communicate design status and updates effectively.
Experience
- Mechanical or industrial design engineering experience.
- Sheet metal and metal fabrication experience
- Knowledge and experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD, particularly sheet metal features, material properties, drawings, and renderings.
- Experience generating drawings and CAD packages for production release.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of metal fabrication processes, equipment, and manufacturing workflows, specifically bending/forming, laser cutting, and welding.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Experience generating drawings and CAD packages for production release.
- Proficiency with welding symbols, blueprints, shop drawings, and measurement tools.
- Analytical approach to problem-solving and ability to develop creative technical solutions.
- Understanding of DFA/DFM methodologies.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
- Sound understanding of BOM structures and process routings in an ERP environment.
Education
A mechanical design engineering education is ideal.
