Primary Responsibilities
- Outreach to men and boys to involve them in groups, culture nights and other services at NCFST
- Supporting men and boys at the various hubs Malvern, Mount Dennis, SLC, Youth Department and 30 College
- Co-facilitation of groups for men and boys aimed at the prevention of family violence and community violence
- Collaboration with the Supervisors and staff at the various locations to determine needs and provide holistic groups focusing
- Document interactions with community members in Caseworks, ensuring accurate, cohesive records of relationship with community are kept up to date
- Advocate on behalf of community member needs to ensure safe and positive referral + transition experiences
- Participate in Circle of Care meetings or case conferences, whenever necessary
- Create ongoing rapport with service providers, including local hospitals and schools
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge And Skills
- A BSW or related degree, with 1-2 years experience, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Strong connections with the Toronto Indigenous community.
- High literacy in Indigenous cultures and a concrete understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within the community.
- Competent understanding of human trafficking and impacts on Indigenous community.
- Understanding of addictions and mental health and health issues that may impact Indigenous youth.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, counselling and crisis management skills.
- Knowledge of the legislation pertaining to various systems, including the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, the Canadian Criminal Code, and the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values into practice, service and relationships.
- Excellent analytical, time management and organization skills.
- Strong report writing, communication and computer skills.
- Excellent at working independently and as part of the team.
- A willingness to obtain and pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is a strong asset
- Availability to work evenings and weekends if needed
- Willingness to meet community in person, either at the office(s) or in community
