Job description

A Construction Estimator is needed to join a leading consultancy team based in Vancouver. Canadian PR, Citizenship or a transferable work permit in Canada is desirable but not essential.

Your job duties will be to prepare construction estimates on major highway, bridge, transportation, rail, and transit projects ranging in size from $20m to multi-billion dollar projects.

Project Details

As an Intermediate Construction Estimator, you will support the Senior Estimator on large projects and work independently on smaller projects. You will collaborate with colleagues in the estimating team and provide cost and estimating support to other business units. The role requires some estimating experience, ambition, and a desire for fast-track training and career development. Suitable candidates will be based in Vancouver / Lower Mainland, balancing remote work and office presence (2-4 days/week).

This role involves in-depth estimating, tendering, and risk evaluation on civil engineering infrastructure, rail, and transit projects in Canada.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Cost estimation and pricing of projects from ground-up using Labour, Equipment, and Materials, supported by schedules and constructability plans.
  • Advising clients on budgets and helping manage their cost systems.
  • Working with designers, planners, and specialists as part of a team.
  • Undertaking commercial management and client interface responsibilities.
  • Identifying and evaluating project risks for inclusion in budgets.
  • Costing projects from drawings at various design stages, using practical construction experience.
  • Reviewing tender documents, geotechnical reports, and construction drawings to predict project durations and budgets.
  • Using industry software like HSS, HeavyBid, Bid2Win, or similar.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • 3-10 years of construction estimating experience, preferably in civil infrastructure, transportation, rail, or related fields.
  • Experience with projects valued from $20m to over $200m.
  • Experience in advising on budgets and managing cost control systems.
  • Experience working in Canada on civil, infrastructure, or rail projects is preferred.
  • Commercial management and client interface skills are beneficial.
  • Proficiency with relevant estimating software.
  • Proactive, innovative, and passionate about estimating and project costing.
Qualifications / Educational Requirements
  • A professional qualification in construction is desirable but hands-on estimating and commercial experience are most critical.
  • Canadian Citizenship or legal right to work in Canada is essential.
  • Recent estimating experience in Vancouver/British Columbia is highly desirable.
