The Remote Certified Primary Care Nurse practices autonomously, utilizing an extended scope of practice defined by various regulatory guidelines, including provincial legislation, BC College of Nurses and Midwives standards, Island Health policies, and individual nurse competencies.
This nurse works independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing direct patient care and participating in health promotion activities for individuals and groups in remote communities. Care approaches must respect community and cultural values, focusing on maintaining or enhancing health through disease prevention, chronic disease management, and acute care across the lifespan. Responsibilities include emergency assessment, treatment, palliative care, health status assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation of interventions, and coordination of health services.
Travel may be required, and transportation arrangements must meet Island Health operational requirements, potentially including the use of a personal vehicle.
