The Assistant Director, Planning Analytics plays a critical role in overseeing data analysis and reporting to support UTM's strategic objectives. Reporting to the Director of Data Strategy & Analytics, this position translates high-level data strategy into actionable insights that guide long-term divisional planning. The role supports data-informed strategic decision-making across campus by analyzing institutional and divisional trends, forecasting future needs, and providing insights to shape long-term planning and policy development. Leveraging data analytics and predictive modeling, the Assistant Director assists leadership in making informed decisions about institutional growth, resource investment, and strategic priorities.
Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or Business Administration (or equivalent) with a strong quantitative background; a combination of education and experience emphasizing quantitative, statistical, and business intelligence skills.
Minimum of 4-5 years related experience in statistical analysis, demographic analysis, computer-assisted analysis, and/or operations research. Administrative experience in a university setting, including establishing protocols, interpreting policies, developing systems, especially in environments with distributed approval authority. Experience working with IT systems, increasing operational efficiency with technology, and handling big data with confidentiality. Knowledge of U of T regulations is an asset. Proven ability to collaborate with senior administrators, manage teams, and provide expert advice.
Strong leadership skills, familiarity with ROSI or similar systems, experience with SPSS, R, SQL, Python, Tableau, and systems thinking. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills. Attention to detail, analytical and conceptual thinking, and knowledge of BI structures. Ability to work in complex, ambiguous situations and to develop creative data analysis solutions. Knowledge of university policies and admission processes is preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational and time management abilities, managerial skills, and a commitment to staff development. Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, apply discretion, and interpret complex policies. Attention to detail and accuracy are essential.
