Job description

Position Overview: Telecommunications and Networking Technician

The Telecommunications and Networking Technician will participate in the design, integration, deployment, maintenance, and operation of networks in electric utilities and industrial systems.

Qualifications and experience:
  • Diploma in telecommunications and/or networking engineering technology, or relevant education and experience
  • 6 to 10 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with maintenance, installation, and operation of wide area and local networks including digital microwave, UHF, VHF, PLC, SCADA, RTUs, and telephony
  • Experience with Optical OC3 Multiplex, OC3 fibre, and T1 circuits
  • Fibre optic cable splicing and termination skills
  • Knowledge of network monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Understanding of network management and security protocols, routing, and traffic analysis
  • Familiarity with network management and operation software
  • Knowledge of telecommunications transmission standards
  • Willingness to work remotely in a BC city with a medium to large airport
  • Asset: Knowledge of protection and control systems in electric utilities
  • Asset: Knowledge of major electrical equipment testing and commissioning procedures
