Job description

The E&I Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all electrical and instrumentation construction activities to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution. This role acts as the technical and field-execution interface between engineering, procurement, construction contractors, quality, and commissioning teams. The Coordinator ensures that all E&I work is delivered according to project specifications, codes (CEC/CSA), company standards, and schedule requirements.

Key Responsibilities
1. Field Coordination & Construction Management
  • Coordinate daily E&I construction activities with contractors to ensure alignment with project schedules and work-front availability.
  • Interpret IFC drawings, electrical one-lines, cable schedules, loop drawings, P&IDs, and installation details for field crews.
  • Verify field installation against design requirements and flag discrepancies, RFIs, and potential scope gaps.
  • Coordinate materials, tools, equipment, and access so crews can maintain productivity.
  • Support readiness for critical path activities such as energization, loop checks, FAT/SAT, and subsystem turnover.
2. Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Ensure installations comply with Alberta Electrical Code, CEC, CSA, ATEX/IECEx, and project specifications.
  • Perform field inspections including:
  • Cable tray installation & grounding
  • Conduit, junction box, and cable terminations
  • Instrumentation tubing, impulse lines, and heat trace
  • MCC, transformer, panel, and skid connections
  • Work closely with the Quality team to resolve NCRs, punch items, rework, and documentation gaps.
  • Ensure that all E&I work is executed with proper permits (CWP, FLHA, LOTO, hot work, confined space, etc.).
3. Interface Management
  • Coordinate interfaces between:
  • Electrical & mechanical completions
  • Instrumentation & controls/automation
  • Vendor reps (VFDs, analyzers, instrumentation packages, skids)
  • Ensure commissioning teams receive complete, ready-for-turnover systems (L1–L4 completions).
4. Documentation & Progress Tracking
  • Maintain redline markups and ensure accurate as-built updates.
  • Track E&I progress using installation quantities (meters of cable, terminations, loops, panels, devices).
  • Prepare daily/weekly reports on manpower, progress, issues, and constraints.
  • Assist with turnover documentation:
  • Test sheets
5. Safety Leadership
  • Lead by example in enforcing project safety requirements and participating in daily toolbox talks and field inspections.
  • Support safe execution of electrical energization activities (LOTO, arc-flash protection, isolation plans).
  • Report safety observations and ensure corrective actions are followed.
6. Change Management & Problem Resolution
  • Identify scope changes and assist Project Controls in preparing change requests.
  • Provide technical guidance to resolve field issues quickly.
  • Coordinate with Engineering for timely responses on RFIs, technical deviations, and design clarifications.
Required Qualifications
Education & Certifications
  • Journeyman Electrician or Instrumentation Technician, or equivalent technical diploma/degree.
  • Preferably AIT/Journeyman certified in Alberta.
  • Valid safety tickets (CSO, Ground Disturbance, WHMIS, First Aid, etc.).
  • Understanding of LOTO, arc-flash categories, and electrical safety.
Experience
  • 5–10 years of E&I construction experience in oil & gas, SAGD, heavy industrial, or energy sector projects.
  • Experience with well-pads, CPF brownfield tie-ins, OSBL infrastructure, or modular construction preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction management in EPC/EPCM environments.
Core Competencies
