Job summary

Kiewit Energy Canada District is seeking a Mechanical Field Coordinator to lead on-site activities, enforce health and safety, and ensure quality of reporting and workmanship. Reporting to a Project Engineer or Project Manager, your main duties include contract administration, project planning, scheduling, and reporting.

Based across Canada, the successful candidate will travel/relocate as needed and contribute to field surveying, data gathering, and cost control with subcontractors and vendors.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years' construction field experience with a focus on mechanical works.
• Ability to travel and relocate as needed.
• Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Strong ethics and commitment to safety.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.
• Assist in reviewing historical data relative to the project for bid preparation.
• Complete plan and specification reviews for assigned projects and assess risk areas.
• Perform material takeoffs and quantify completed/installed work.
• Assist in field surveying and data collection for layouts.
• Support in preparing purchase orders and subcontracts, and assist with cost reporting.
• Contribute to safety reviews, toolbox talks, and training.

Position Overview

As a Mechanical Field Coordinator, you will be expected to be a job‑site leader in health and safety, ensuring quality of reporting and workmanship, and that all engineering work is completed in a professional and ethical manner. Reporting to a Project Engineer or Project Manager, your main functions will include contract administration, project planning, scheduling, and project reporting. This role plays an advisory role to Project Management for contractual, legal, and other project issues.

District Overview

Kiewit Energy Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. We are a major industrial contractor that works on projects that involve construction of oil & gas facilities such as oil sands processing, including steam–assisted gravity drainage facilities, upgrading & refining, midstream facilities, power & co‑generation, terminal projects (ex. LNG, LPG, etc.), and major mine developments. We also have a Modular Yard facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Our engineering branch is a leading‑edge division that offers innovative engineering services for our current projects and new pursuits in Canada. Our design services group is based in Calgary and Houston offering expertise in process, piping, mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural disciplines.

Location

We have several opportunities on projects across Canada.

The successful candidate will be willing to work various rotations and/or relocate across Western Canada and beyond for various assignments.

Responsibilities

• Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite
• Assist in reviewing and analyzing historical data relative to the project, incorporating various productions and costs appropriate in preparation of a bid
• Complete a plan and specification review for an assigned project, assessing the risk areas and bringing them to the attention of the Senior Estimator
• Complete material and quantity takeoffs according to bid document
• Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
• Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials and work
• Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages
• Assist in field surveying and work layout support including elevation, control points, and compilation of as‑built data
• Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets
• Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training
• Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications and other contract documents
• Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
• Assist Engineers to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use
• Assist in preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested
• Assist in schedule maintenance and performing updates as directed by others
• Assist with entering data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management
• Assist in generating change orders and as‑built data to be reviewed by the Project Manager

Qualifications

• 3‑5+ years' construction field experience with a focus on mechanical works
• Work experience in engineering and leading engineers
• Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to travel and relocate as needed
• Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents
• Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide‑ranging climates and environment
• Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
• Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
• Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
• Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
