Job summary

McCarthy Tétrault in Toronto is seeking a Billing Compliance Analyst to join Client Accounts Operations. The role requires a minimum of 3 years of legal billing or eBilling experience, with responsibility for ensuring accuracy and integrity of the billing process from setup to payment.

This is a hybrid position with four days in the office. The successful candidate will configure client rates, set up matters, maintain billing rules, and support timely invoicing while working with lawyers,

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of legal billing or eBilling experience in a law firm or professional services.
• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
• Familiarity with OCGs, LEDES formats, and eBilling standards.
• Hands-on experience with eBilling platforms (Legal Tracker, CounselLink, TyMetrix 360) or similar.
• Experience with Aderant Expert or similar billing system is an asset.
• Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, lookups, data transformation).
• Power BI and Power Apps experience required.
• SQL and Power Query experience is a strong asset.
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines; willing to overtime at peak periods.

Responsibilities

• Open and configure new matters and clients; onboarding to go-live.
• Translate OCGs into billing rules and configurations.
• Set up and validating billing formats; resolve format-related rejections.
• Configure phase and task codes, invoice formats, and billing flags.
• Maintain complete billing notes and correct client records.
• Link clients to correct key client records with billing flags.
• Build and maintain documentation for the billing function.
• Set up matter-, timekeeper-, and client-specific rates; manage rate increases.
• Maintain client lists with current rate structures.
• Flag onboarding and OCG rate changes to MT Rates team.
• Investigate, correct, and resubmit rejected rates.
• Anticipate guideline/portal divergences and close gaps.
• Reconcile invoices; track status; resolve rejections.
• Collaborate with collections on outstanding invoices.
• Prepare status reports and budgets in eBilling systems.
• Escalate issues; liaise between lawyers, billing analysts, and Finance.
• Build dashboards using Power BI, SQL, Power Query.
• Share learnings; improve billing data workflows.
• Perform other related duties.
