POSITION SUMMARY

The Drafting Technician can perform any job-related drafting tasks and programming function relating to Scripts and SMP the department is responsible for. He/she has developed all the competencies required to produce work for the department and understands how to maintain and develop the automated drafting tools the department uses for present and future lines of products.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Have complete understanding of the scope and requirements of a project;
• Create both two-dimensional and three-dimensional renderings of the finished project;
• Utilize both manual drawing skills as wells as computer-based application, such as automated computer-assisted drafting; (AutoCAD) ;
• Able to create customized BIM models for clients. (Revit);
• Prepare content for Engineering review;
• Edit co-worker’s work to maintain output quality;
• Participate in changes to procedures as required;
• Prepare standard drawings for the company products based on design standards and engineering input;
• Prepare Sheet Metal Programs based on the established procedures;
• Can troubleshoot or modify the current SMP process to fit new requirements;
• Ensure all drawings are accurate and adhere to the drawing schedules and design standards;
• Produce any product series sets of shop drawing according to the set schedule to meet and match production schedules or customer timelines;
• Is capable of maintaining and troubleshooting the automated scripting tools used in the department;
• Can assist in the development of new scripting tools to produce other product lines if required;
• Able to train existing skills to another draftsman in the department;
• Maintain, revise, and create drafting procedures;
• Assist Sales department by preparing sales drawings and layouts.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• DEC or Drafting certification (preferably in Architectural Technology);
• Minimum two years of experience in a similar role;
• Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

• Comfortable with mathematics, computers and electronic equipment;
• Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD and 3D CAD (Revit or Solid edge) essential;
• Familiar with Microsoft Office suite;
• Excel VBA or basic programming familiarity (asset);
• Creativity and ability to visualize space relationships in three dimensions, as well as have concern for details and accuracy;
• Possesses good problem-solving skills;
• Ability to work under pressure;
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication ability in both English & French. *Advanced proficiency levels in both languages is required as this role will be working with customers from all around the world (mostly USA).
