Job summary

YWCA Hamilton is seeking a Dollars and Sense Coordinator to advance financial literacy and empowerment initiatives in Hamilton. You will work with diverse women, seniors, and gender-diverse individuals to deliver workshops and coordinate outreach.

The role involves collaboration with the Centre of Innovation and Business Advisory teams, designing content, and ensuring services are accessible and trauma-informed. A 37.5-hour week with occasional evenings is typical.

Qualifications

  • Must have an undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience facilitating workshops, presentations, or group education sessions.
  • Knowledge of financial literacy topics including budgeting, savings, taxes, and fraud prevention.
  • Strong technology skills with MS Office, Zoom, Canva, and social media.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver financial literacy programming under the Dollars and Sense initiative.
  • Facilitate engaging workshops on budgeting, money management, savings, credit, debt, and fraud prevention for diverse populations.
  • Design and facilitate programming for Milli Gould Entrepreneurial Centre and PowerUp initiatives.
  • Coordinate community tax clinics, scheduling, logistics, and volunteer coordination.
  • Build partnerships with community agencies and stakeholders to expand access to programming.

Responsibilities

The Dollars and Sense Coordinator supports the successful delivery of YWCA Hamilton's financial literacy and financial empowerment programming as part of the national Dollars and Sense initiative. The Coordinator plays a key role in increasing access to financial education, fraud prevention awareness, and economic empowerment opportunities for low-income women, seniors, and gender-diverse individuals across the community. Working closely with the Business Advisory Manager, the Coordinator facilitates workshops, coordinates community outreach and participant engagement activities, supports partnerships and referrals, and helps ensure programming is accessible, trauma-informed, and responsive to community needs.

  • Coordinate and deliver financial literacy programming under the Dollars and Sense initiative;
  • Facilitate engaging financial literacy workshops on topics including budgeting, money management, savings, credit, debt management, consumer awareness, government benefits, tax filing supports, financial abuse prevention, and online fraud protection for vulnerable populations, including seniors;
  • Design and facilitate financial literacy workshops for entrepreneurs participating in the Milli Gould Entrepreneurial Centre and PowerUp programming;
  • Coordinate and organize community-based income tax clinics, including scheduling, logistics, volunteer coordination, participant registration, and community promotion;
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community agencies, financial institutions, libraries, seniors' organizations, and other stakeholders to increase access to financial education programming;
  • Promote Dollars and Sense programming through community outreach, presentations, networking events, social media, marketing campaigns, and community engagement initiatives;
  • Recruit participants and support intake activities for workshops and financial literacy programming;
  • Develop marketing content including Canva graphics, social media posts, promotional materials, and outreach campaigns in collaboration with the YWCA Hamilton Marketing Department;
  • Coordinate workshop logistics including registrations, participant communications, venue preparation, materials, evaluations, and follow-up activities;
  • Provide participants with information, resources, referrals, and connections to community services that support financial wellbeing;
  • Collect participant information and maintain accurate records in accordance with program and funder requirements;
  • Collect program data and key performance indicators (KPIs), supporting data equity initiatives and preparing information required for quarterly and annual reports;
  • Assist with program evaluation by collecting participant feedback, success stories, testimonials, and outcome measurements;
  • Monitor program outcomes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation;
  • Support financial literacy events, community engagement activities, and special initiatives organized through the Centre of Innovation;
  • Maintain current knowledge of financial literacy trends, consumer protection issues, fraud prevention strategies, and available community resources;
  • Submit program expenses and assist with budget tracking in accordance with program guidelines;
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments and external partners to ensure successful program delivery;
  • Works safely, reports all workplace hazards, and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton's Mission, Vision, and Values;
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Must have an undergraduate degree, preferably in Business Administration, Finance, Adult Education, Social Sciences, Community Development, or a related field, or a combination of related education and experience;
  • Experience facilitating workshops, presentations, or group education sessions;
  • Knowledge of financial literacy topics including budgeting, savings, credit, debt management, taxes, government benefits, consumer awareness, and fraud prevention;
  • Strong technology skills and experience using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), Zoom, Canva, and social media;
  • Experience coordinating community outreach initiatives and building relationships with community organizations and stakeholders;
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with diverse populations;
  • Experience collecting program data, maintaining participant records, and supporting program evaluation considered an asset;
  • Must be focused, self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Must provide a current Criminal Record Judicial Matters Police Check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must have current Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must be able to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Bilingual English/French or other languages considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Works a 37.50-hour work week.
  • Some evening and occasional weekend work may be required to support workshops, community events, outreach activities, and income tax clinics.
  • Local travel within the Hamilton area may be required.
