Job summary

Heritage Park in Calgary is seeking a seasonal dishwasher to support kitchen operations under the Executive Sous Chef and Head Kitchen Porter. You will wash, sort, and store dishes, maintain a clean work area, and assist in daily prep and storage to help keep a smooth kitchen workflow.

This role offers exposure to a thriving park setting, opportunities to work with a dedicated culinary team, and shifts that may include mornings, evenings and weekends during the season.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a dishwasher or similar role in a fast-paced kitchen.
  • Knowledge of proper dishwashing procedures and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and multitask.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain cleanliness.
  • Physical stamina to stand long hours and lift heavy items.
  • Excellent communication with kitchen staff and supervisors.
  • Flexibility to work weekends/holidays and varied shifts.
  • Basic food handling and safety knowledge.
  • Willingness to train further in kitchen operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean kitchen environment by washing and sorting soiled dishes.

  • Keep floors clean and dry to ensure safety.
  • Wash, stack, and store china, glassware, cookware and containers.
  • Change water in machines as required by business levels.
  • Assist in timely storage of food deliveries to support workflow.
  • Manage trash cans and dispose of full bags at end of shift.
  • Maintain dry storage area and organize shelves for retrieval.
  • Follow daily dish cleaning duties to ensure consistency.

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Executive Sous Chef, Head Kitchen porter and relevant departmental supervisors, the dishwasher organizes and cleans at all kitchen outlet at Heritage Park.

Responsibilities:
Kitchen Support
  • Maintain a clean kitchen environment by washing and sorting soiled dishes.
  • Prepare foods as needed and ensure the dish area is free of clutter and well-organized.
  • Set up dish stations, including dish machines and sinks, in preparation for daily operations.
  • Keep floors clean and dry throughout the shift to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Properly wash, stack, and store china, glassware, silverware, cookware, and storage containers.
  • Change water in machines and sinks every two hours or more often as required by business levels.
  • Assist in the timely storage of food deliveries to maintain optimal kitchen workflow.
  • Manage trash cans throughout the shift, and remove full trash cans and boxes at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain the dry storage area and organize storage shelves to facilitate efficient storage and retrieval.
  • Adhere to posted daily dish cleaning duties to ensure consistent cleanliness standards.
  • Perform other duties as required to contribute to the smooth operation of the kitchen.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a dishwasher or in a similar role within a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Knowledge of proper dishwashing procedures and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to maintain cleanliness and orderliness.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with kitchen staff and supervisors.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of basic food handling and safety guidelines.
  • Capacity to follow instructions and work independently as needed.
  • Willingness to undergo any required training programs related to kitchen operations and safety.
  • All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to complete a Police Information Check as a condition of employment. Special Clothing and Equipment:
  • Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park if applicable; and
  • Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.
Special Working Conditions:
  • The position will be exposed to hot and cold temperatures; and
  • This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must have the ability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods of time.
Hours of Work:
  • The standard hours for this position vary based on operation needs.
  • Early morning, evening and weekend work may be required throughout the year.
