Job summary

Heritage Park Historical Village in Alberta is seeking a seasonalDining Server to join the Food & Beverage Operations team. The role involves serving food and beverages across park dining locations, taking orders, and ensuring a high-quality guest experience.

Under the Dining Room Supervisor, you will handle opening/closing duties, payments via POS, and maintain hygiene per Alberta Health Services standards. ProServe certification is preferred; flexibility for weekends/evenings is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in restaurant or hospitality preferred but not required.
  • ProServe certification preferred; 18+ eligibility mandatory.
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Attention to detail to accurately take orders and fulfil guest requests.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-facing setting.
  • Police Information Check required for candidates over 18; assessment per policy.

Responsibilities

  • Present menus, take orders, and answer questions about menu items; coordinate with culinary team for smooth service.
  • Perform opening duties: check stock, set up dining area, inspect workspace and report issues.
  • Perform closing duties: cash out, clean servery and dining room, prepare for next shift.
  • Process payments accurately using POS systems.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation per AHS standards for guest safety.
  • Assist in emergency evacuation procedures to ensure visitor safety.
  • Provide welcoming, customer-focused service and information to enhance visitor experience.
  • Fill in as hostess as needed by Senior Server.
  • Other duties as required.

Who We Are

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview

Under the direction of the Dining Room Supervisor, the Dining Server serves food and beverages to patrons in various dining locations on the Park including the Wainwright Hotel in accordance with accepted routines, to ensure satisfaction for visitors of the Park.

Responsibilities
Service
  • Present menus, take orders, and answer questions regarding menu items, communicating with culinary team to ensure smooth service
  • Complete opening duties for the assigned service area including ensuring adequate levels of food and cutlery stock, setting up the dining room, and completing a general inspection of the work area and reporting property damage or safety concerns
  • Complete closing duties including cash out, cleaning up the servery and dining room and ensuring proper setup for upcoming usage of the venue
  • Process payments accurately and efficiently using POS systems
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the dining area, adhering to Alberta Health Services (AHS) standards to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for guests
  • Assist in emergency evacuation procedures, ensuring visitor safety, in calm and efficient manner
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors with a customer-focused approach, providing courteous and friendly customer service and valuable information to enhance the overall visitor experience
  • Provide an exceptional visitor experience through friendly and courteous interactions with guests, staff, and volunteers, using polite greetings, actively acknowledging guests, and handling situations positively
  • Fills in as a hostess as required and directed by the Senior Server
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a restaurant or hospitality environment is preferred but not required
  • Possession of ProServe certification is preferred; meeting ProServe eligibility requirements (being 18 years of age or older) is mandatory
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Attention to detail to accurately take orders and fulfil guest requests
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-faced setting
  • All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to complete a Police Information Check as a condition of employment. Special Clothing and Equipment
  • Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park; and
  • Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.
Special Working Conditions
  • The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors; and
  • This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must have the ability to lift heavy items, stand for long periods of time and walk throughout the Park for extended periods
Hours of Work
  • Hours vary, but schedules with up to 37 hours of work are available
  • Flexibility is required to work holidays, evenings, and weekends
