Job summary

Heritage Park in Calgary, AB, is seeking a Seasonal Dining Server to join the Food & Beverage Operations team. The role involves serving food and beverages across park dining locations, answering guest questions, and maintaining service areas with a focus on guest satisfaction.

You'll support opening/closing duties, handle payments via POS, and keep the area clean and compliant with AHS standards. Flexibility for weekends/evenings is expected; ProServe certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a restaurant or hospitality environment is preferred but not required.
  • ProServe certification is preferred; meeting ProServe eligibility requirements (being 18 years of age or older) is mandatory.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attention to detail to accurately take orders and fulfil guest requests.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-faced setting.
  • Police Information Check required for all candidates over 18; background assessed per policy.

Responsibilities

  • Present menus, take orders, and answer questions regarding menu items, communicating with culinary team to ensure smooth service.
  • Complete opening duties for the assigned service area and ensure adequate levels of food and cutlery stock, set up the dining room, and inspect work area.
  • Close duties including cash out, cleaning the servery and dining room, and prep for next usage.
  • Process payments accurately using POS systems.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation per Alberta Health Services standards.
  • Assist in emergency evacuation procedures to ensure visitor safety.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere with customer-focused service and provide information to enhance visitor experience.
  • Provide courteous interactions with guests, staff and volunteers, and assist as hostess when needed.

Who We Are:

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Dining Room Supervisor, the Dining Server serves food and beverages to patrons in various dining locations on the Park including the Wainwright Hotel in accordance with accepted routines, to ensure satisfaction for visitors of the Park.

Responsibilities:

Service
  • Present menus, take orders, and answer questions regarding menu items, communicating with culinary team to ensure smooth service
  • Complete opening duties for the assigned service area including ensuring adequate levels of food and cutlery stock, setting up the dining room, and completing a general inspection of the work area and reporting property damage or safety concerns
  • Complete closing duties including cash out, cleaning up the servery and dining room and ensuring proper setup for upcoming usage of the venue
  • Process payments accurately and efficiently using POS systems
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the dining area, adhering to Alberta Health Services (AHS) standards to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for guests
  • Assist in emergency evacuation procedures, ensuring visitor safety, in calm and efficient manner
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors with a customer-focused approach, providing courteous and friendly customer service and valuable information to enhance the overall visitor experience
  • Provide an exceptional visitor experience through friendly and courteous interactions with guests, staff, and volunteers, using polite greetings, actively acknowledging guests, and handling situations positively
  • Fills in as a hostess as required and directed by the Senior Server
  • Perform other duties as required

  • All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to complete a Police Information Check as a condition of employment. Special Clothing and Equipment:

  • Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park; and
  • Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.

Special Working Conditions:

  • The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors; and
  • This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must have the ability to lift heavy items, stand for long periods of time and walk throughout the Park for extended periods

Hours of Work:

  • Hours vary, but schedules with up to 37 hours of work are available
  • Flexibility is required to work holidays, evenings, and weekends
