What's the opportunity?

We are seeking a Platform and Data Engineering leader to drive the development of Platform and Data engineering solutions on RBC Borealis Lumina Data & AI Platform Engineering team, that meet the strategic data objectives of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of platform and data solutions, as well as lead, mentor, and grow a team of talented platform, data engineers and DBA’s. This role requires strong platform engineering, data engineering skills and leadership, effective written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic and a demonstrated capability to multi-task effectively as a member of a dynamic, fast paced team.

Your responsibilities include:

• Work within the Platform Engineering team and with the Business SMEs and Platform leads to understand and determine best mix of development and technical data solutions to meet business requirements and project objectives.
• Integrate data with Cloud based platforms and publish curated data products for consumption.
• Participate in Data management requirements and support Data and AI needs of business and technology stakeholders.
• Work in an agile team of Platform Engineers, Data Engineers, Developers and RBC business stakeholders.
• Collaborate with database administrator, data scientists, process engineers and business stakeholders on requirement gathering and assist with prescriptive and predictive analytics through consolidated data pipelines.
• Supporting project team to scale, monitor and operate data platforms for very high availability and performance.

You're our ideal candidate if you have:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience.
• 10+ years of hands‑on experience in platform engineering, data engineering and related technologies.
• 10+ years of Database Management experience (Teradata, DB2, Snowflake, Spark and Databricks-specific SQL is a plus).
• 10+ years of experience with database schema design, dimensional data modeling, and scalable data architecture.
• Working knowledge of Platform and Data Engineering, including: Teradata, DB2, Snowflake, Databricks, Airflow, Kafka, DataStage and similar technologies.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in architecture and design within a large financial institution, preferably within RBC.
• Proven knowledge of RBC’s internal systems, infrastructure practices, and governance frameworks.
• Expertise in OCP (Red Hat OpenShift) including deployment, networking, CI/CD integration, and cluster operations.
• Strong experience with on‑prem technologies and Cloud (AWS, Azure) and hybrid cloud environments.
• Demonstrated ability to present and defend architecture solutions to RBC’s ARB and senior technology stakeholders.
• Solid understanding of banking products, payment systems, credit cards, SRF, regulatory requirements, and cybersecurity standards.
• Proficient in architectural modeling tools (e.g., ArchiMate, UML), and documentation tools (e.g., Confluence, Visio).
• Exceptional communication, influence, and leadership skills.
