Job summary

Trevor Frances Recruitment is partnering with a premier Long-Term Care provider to recruit a visionary Director of Resident Care (RN) for a brand new Scarborough facility.

The successful candidate will plan, develop, and oversee high-quality nursing, therapy, and restorative services, ensuring compliance with government standards. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, manage admissions and budgets, and foster a resident-centred, compassionate culture from day one.

Qualifications

• Current RN registration with CNO.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BScN) required.
• Minimum 5 years nursing experience, incl. 1 year geriatrics.
• At least 3 years in RN managerial/supervisory role; LTC preferred.
• Current CPR certificate and a Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Budgeting experience for department budgets.
• Strong leadership, change management, and communication skills.
• Chinese language is an asset.

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a compassionate, strategic leader who will establish a culture of excellence right from the start. Working in close consultation with the Executive Director, you will plan, develop, and oversee a high-quality nursing and therapy service that fully complies with relevant government legislations, policies, and standards. Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Clinical Oversight

• Plan, develop, and supervise all high-quality nursing, therapy, and restorative care activities for the opening and ongoing operations of the new facility.
• Promote a caring environment that supports the practice of therapeutically effective nursing care.
• Advocate for residents by actively following up on concerns to promote optimal health, independence, and comfort.
• Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges by reviewing all applications for resident placement in the new LTC home.

Operations, Budgeting & Risk Management

• Develop and implement an effective internal budgeting, expenditure, and inventory control system for the department to ensure the responsible use of resources.
• Lead risk management and quality improvement programs, including infection control, occupational health and safety, and incident/falls prevention.
• Ensure coordination of resident care across multi-disciplinary services, including food services, activation, social work, environmental, and rehabilitation services.
• Manage and control all pharmaceutical supplies and department inventory.

People Management & Staff Development

• Recruit, hire, and build an agile, effective, and highly engaged nursing team to staff the new home.
• Coach, mentor, monitor, and evaluate professional and non-professional staff to support continuous growth.
• Oversee comprehensive orientation and regular in-service training programs for the incoming team.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Administration

• Act as Chair for the Professional Advisory Committee, Registered Nursing Staff Meetings, and Nursing Departmental Meetings.
• Liaise with the Ministry of Health on relevant issues and provide timely statistical reporting to the Executive Director.
• Collaborate regularly with attending physicians, pharmacists, laboratories, agencies, and hospitals to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Assist the Executive Director with the general administration of the LTC Home and keep up-to-date with industry best practices.

Qualifications & Skills

• Current RN Registration: Must be a Registered Nurse with a current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BScN), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, which must include:
  • At least 1 year of experience in Geriatrics, Rehabilitation, and Long-Term Care Nursing.
  • At least 3 years of experience as an RN in a managerial or supervisory capacity within a healthcare setting (LTC preferred).
• Certifications & Compliance: Current CPR Certificate and a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen result.
• Financial Acumen: Proven experience preparing, managing, and monitoring departmental financial budgets.
• Leadership Style: Strong leadership and change-management skills with the flexibility to adapt to a highly demanding environment.
• Core Competencies: Excellent conflict resolution, negotiation, presentation, and computer literacy skills.
• Language Asset: Ability to communicate in Chinese is considered a strong asset given the local community demographics.

Working Conditions

• Occasional travel within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is required.
