Our client is a general contractor specializing in the development of integrated, repeatable building solutions tailored to institutional projects and complex environments. The organization designs and delivers built environments that respond to highly demanding operational contexts, where planning, smart standardization, and multidisciplinary coordination are critical to project success.

They are currently at a pivotal stage in its evolution, with a clear intention to further structure its offering, elevate its technical standards, and position itself as a leader in innovative and high‑performance practices within its industry.

The Role

Reporting directly to senior management, the Director of Innovation and Product Development holds a central and structuring role within the organization. This individual acts as a strategic technical reference, a key driver of new solution development, and a convergence point between market development, design, and execution.

Through this role, the organization is better equipped to qualify opportunities upstream, reduce technical risks, and increase its capacity to deliver more complex projects.

Key Responsibilities
Innovation and Solution Development
  • Define and guide the vision for solution and product development in alignment with the business strategy.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, enhancement, and evolution of the existing offering.
  • Develop new configurations, standards, or technical approaches adapted to complex environments.
  • Translate market, client, and operational needs into concrete, feasible, and differentiated solutions.
  • Maintain a balance between innovation, technical feasibility, profitability, and execution capacity.
Structuring, Standardization, and Risk Management
  • Analyze the existing offering to improve consistency, performance, and efficiency.
  • Contribute to the definition of technical standards that support repeatability, quality, and speed of execution.
  • Intervene upstream in projects to identify technical constraints, risks, and opportunities.
  • Enable the organization to access more complex projects by strengthening technical decision‑making frameworks.
Design Oversight
  • Oversee internal and external design teams.
  • Ensure the quality, relevance, and consistency of design deliverables.
  • Gradually structure the design function, including its processes and working methods.
Market Development Support
  • Support market leaders on technical considerations related to business opportunities.
  • Participate in selected client discussions to inform and support strategic decisions.
  • Assess risks, opportunities, and possible technical avenues.
  • Act as a key link between development, design, and execution teams.
Education and Experience
  • University degree in Engineering (building engineering, construction engineering, or a related field).
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • 10 to 15+ years of experience in complex technical environments.
  • Experience at the interface of design, engineering, operations, and business development.
  • Experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams.
Key Competencies
  • Generalist profile with strong technical analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to structure complex issues and mobilize the appropriate expertise.
  • Broad understanding of design, execution, cost, and performance challenges.
  • Comfort operating in environments where technical and business parameters are closely intertwined.
  • Bilingualism in French and English.
Personal Attributes
  • Credible leadership with technical experts.
  • Strong judgment, autonomy, and sense of responsibility.
  • Solution‑oriented mindset, pragmatic innovation, and continuous improvement focus.
  • Desire to contribute to the structuring and growth of an organization.

This is a key role for a senior engineer seeking to have a tangible impact by intervening very early in projects and directly influencing technical, strategic, and business decisions. A unique opportunity to structure, innovate, and de‑risk complex projects in an environment where expertise, sound judgment, and systems‑level thinking make all the difference.

Compensation
  • Annual base salary starting at $150,000+, depending on experience
  • Annual bonus
  • Comprehensive benefits, group insurance, and employer‑contributed retirement plan
  • 4 weeks of vacation
  • On‑site position (4 days in the office, 1 day remote)
