The opportunity

The Director of Finance for Canada oversees all finance activities across various business lines (Assurance, Consulting, EYP, Tax) and finance functions (Controlling, Markets Finance). Reporting to the CFO, this role supports the Executive Committee, Service Line Managing Partners, and other senior leaders. The individual understands the firm's strategy and drives the delivery of finance solutions and services, collaborating across service lines and national functions to support strategic execution. They work with regional and global finance leaders to provide strategic insights, analytical support, robust internal controls, reporting solutions, transaction processing, and sharing best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Enable financial processes to deliver accurate metrics supporting strategic plans, including new service offerings and assets.
  2. Review and analyze financial metrics such as revenue, gross margin, utilization, leverage, controllable expenses, and exposure, providing insights and recommendations for improvement, especially during month, quarter, and year-end processes.
  3. Prepare, review, and consolidate annual budgets and forecasts.
  4. Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues, including financial results against budgets, historical performance, and future estimates.
  5. Support leadership in managing engagement economics and exposure, including billing, collection, and revenue days.
  6. Maintain effective internal controls over financial measurement and reporting.
  7. Support the Canadian CFO by promoting best practices across Canada.
  8. Lead and participate in firm-wide finance initiatives.
  9. Demonstrate leadership in delivering strategic finance and operational initiatives across service lines and functions.
  10. Manage a team of finance professionals, including mentoring and development.
Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities
  1. Apply strong analytical skills and decision-making capabilities.
  2. Collaborate with other national functions to support the CFO, Executive Committee, and leadership.
  3. Operate effectively in a dynamic market environment, assessing financial drivers and focusing on continuous improvement.
  4. Advise the CFO and leadership on expected financial performance using trend analysis and scenario modeling.
Leadership and coaching
  1. Manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  2. Work collaboratively with senior leaders within Canada and globally.
  3. Implement and lead key business change initiatives successfully.
  4. Build, lead, and coach a team of finance professionals.
  5. Coordinate with regional and global finance teams and other functions.
Client service
  1. Embed trusted advisor practices within the finance team.
  2. Focus on analysis, advice, and solutions to improve financial performance, leveraging emerging technologies like AI.
  3. Enhance service to clients through collaboration and best practices.
Analysis, modeling & advice
  1. Communicate financial performance clearly and concisely.
  2. Synthesize market and financial trends to support decision-making.
  3. Apply sound financial practices and seek operational excellence.
Qualifications
  1. CPA or equivalent certification is required.
  2. Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  3. SAP experience is preferred.
  4. Understanding of EY’s services and market landscape is beneficial; EY experience is a plus.
