Your mission

Reporting to the President of Colas Canada, the Director of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for designing, implementing, coordinating, and continually improving environment— including carbon tracking and strategies— health, and safety management systems across Canada. This role provides operational and strategic direction on all EHS issues, ensuring standards, policies, and processes align with our mission, values, and priorities. You will analyze environmental trends, ensure compliance with sustainability standards, and implement strategies to enhance environmental performance, with a focus on carbon reduction and sustainability.

Main Responsibilities
Environmental Responsibilities:
  • Lead environmental strategy and set priorities for Colas Canada, fostering expertise within subsidiaries.
  • Establish measures to minimize environmental footprint.
  • Develop and enforce environmental policies aligned with the Colas Group’s commitments.
  • Educate executive teams on policies, practices, and requirements.
  • Champion audits, action plans, and initiatives for environmental stewardship.
  • Create guidelines addressing GHG emissions, carbon footprint, and biodiversity, aligning with corporate vision.
  • Advise on environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Oversee annual environmental assessments and audits of sites.
  • Develop incident monitoring systems for environmental impacts.
  • Implement biodiversity and low-carbon strategies, collaborating across functions.
  • Create and support carbon reduction strategies for Canada and subsidiaries.
  • Manage carbon accounting processes in collaboration with finance and operations.
  • Lead environmental and carbon reduction meetings and workgroups.
  • Develop and promote awareness materials on environmental risks, carbon, biodiversity, and waste management.
  • Report environmental data, incidents, and best practices to corporate.
  • Create action plans with subsidiaries to address deficiencies.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
  • Lead health and safety strategy across Canada.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to define and implement policies.
  • Monitor compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Promote audits, action plans, and safety initiatives.
  • Work with legal and HR teams on violations.
  • Lead matrix teams focusing on skills development and management.
  • Manage health and safety budgets and priorities.
  • Analyze performance dashboards and generate reports with action plans.
Your Profile
Skills/Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field.
  • CRSP certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Expertise in environmental regulations and carbon monitoring across provinces.
  • At least 10 years of leadership experience in manufacturing or construction environments with multiple operational entities.
