Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field and at least 10 years in strategic communications.
  • Expertise in corporate reputation, issues and crisis management, media relations and spokesperson responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to advise senior leaders and translate business priorities into clear communications strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy aligned with Danone Canada’s priorities and purpose.
  • Lead internal and external communications, shaping a consistent narrative across audiences and channels.
  • Anticipate and manage reputational risks, serve on the crisis management team and oversee preparedness.
  • Lead media relations, act as spokesperson, and develop leadership visibility and thought leadership.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and collaborate with Marketing, Government Affairs and other teams.
  • Coach and develop the communications team, manage agencies, budget and KPIs using AI/digital tools.

Reporting to the SVP, General Secretary & General Counsel, the strategic and influential Director of Communications will serve as a trusted advisor to the leadership team, shaping and executing an integrated communications strategy that enhances Danone's reputation, accelerates key business priorities and fosters a strong culture of employee engagament.

You will define Danone Canada’s voice across internal and external audiences, lead high-impact issues and crisis communications, and elevate the visibility of our purpose-driven mission.

This bilingual role is based in Boucherville or Toronto.

Communications Strategy & Corporate Reputation
  • Develop and execute an integrated communications and reputation strategy aligned with Danone Canada’s business priorities, growth ambitions and purpose.
  • Strengthen and protect the company’s reputation by identifying opportunities, risks and emerging issues that may affect stakeholder trust.
Corporate Narrative, Employee Engagement & Purpose
  • Lead internal and external communications, ensuring a consistent and compelling narrative across audiences and channels. Amplify One Planet. One Health while supporting employee engagement and key organizational priorities.
Issues & Crisis Management
  • Anticipate, assess and manage reputational risks in partnership with business leaders.
  • Serve as a permanent member of the crisis management team and lead crisis preparedness, simulations, response strategies and communications.
Media Relations, Executive Visibility & Thought Leadership
  • Lead media relations and corporate positioning, act as Danone Canada’s corporate spokesperson and prepare executives for interviews, public speaking and stakeholder engagements.
  • Develop thought leadership opportunities that strengthen leadership visibility and advance business priorities.
Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and identify strategic partnership opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Government Affairs, Human Resources, Sustainability, Regulatory Affairs and Global Communications, including on brand PR priorities.
Team Leadership, Innovation & Performance
  • Lead, coach and develop the communications team while fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Manage agencies, budget and resources, and leverage KPIs, AI, digital tools and media intelligence to enhance effectiveness and business impact.
Compensation, Benefits & Hiring Transparency

The annual base salary range for this position is $130,000 to $175,000 CAD. The final salary offered will be determined by factors such as relevant experience and qualifications, internal equity and external market conditions.

Danone Canada also offers a competitive short-term incentive bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, including group insurance, group retirement plans, wellbeing account, flexible time off, true hybrid work environment, paid parental leave, and other attractive options.

About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in strategic communications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in corporate reputation, issues and crisis management, media relations and spokesperson responsibilities.
  • Strong track record advising senior leaders and translating business priorities into clear communications strategies.
  • Proven people leadership, collaboration and stakeholder influence across complex organizations.
  • Strong business acumen, agility, resilience, digital and AI fluency, and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Bilingual in English and French. Bilingualism is required for this position, as it involves frequent communication with our business units, plants, and business partners located outside Québec.
