Job summary

Gowling WLG is seeking a Director, Legal Talent to lead recruitment, development, engagement and career advancement of associates across the Corporate Department. You will work with the Department Chair, Practice Group Leaders and Practice Director to implement strategic talent initiatives and ensure high performance and engagement.

Qualifications

• JD or Bachelor's degree in law (jurisdiction dependent).
• Minimum five years as a lawyer in a law firm; corporate experience is a plus.
• Experience in legal talent management, recruitment, and development.
• Strong people leadership, coaching, and mentorship abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strategic thinker with analytical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
• Bilingualism in French is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead integration, engagement, and career development for associates and students.
• Oversee mentorship and professional development programs.
• Ensure associates meet billable targets with department leaders.
• Manage associate evaluation and compensation processes.
• Lead lateral recruitment and monitor staffing levels.
• Oversee budgets for associate and student programs.
• Collaborate on strategic talent planning with senior leaders.
