Job summary

Gowling WLG is seeking a Director of Legal Talent to lead recruitment, development and engagement of associates across Canada. The role partners with the Department Chair, Practice Group Leaders, and Practice Director to implement strategic talent initiatives and ensure successful career progression within the Corporate Department offices.

Qualifications

• JD or Bachelor's degree in law (jurisdiction dependent).
• Minimum five years as a lawyer in a law firm.
• Experience in legal talent management and recruitment.
• Strong leadership and development skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Bilingualism in French is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead associate integration, engagement and career development programs across the firm.
• Oversee performance management, compensation review, and talent reporting.
• Drive recruitment initiatives, including lateral hiring and onboarding of associates.
• Collaborate with chairs, practice group leaders and directors to align talent needs with business plans.
• Manage budgets for associate and student programs and oversee related expenses.
• Partner with Learning, AI & Knowledge teams to advance talent initiatives.
