The Director & Lead Data Scientist uses advanced analytical algorithms and technologies (e.g., machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence) to mine and analyze large sets of structured and unstructured data to obtain insights. Develop predictive models, and leverage big data technology to deliver smarter business decisions, improve customer experience, and drive productivity. Collaborates with other data and analytics professionals and teams to optimize, refine and scale analysis into mature analytics solutions. Collaborates with business partners and other data and analytic professionals to set the roadmap and execute on it. Manages a team of data scientists to deliver the role mandate.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Team Management: Manage a team of data scientists to bring advanced analytical algorithms and modeling approaches to solving BMO Commercial Banking business problems.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders across the Commercial Bank to uncover opportunities and work with the Data Science team and Sr. Manager, Strategy and Governance to develop a prioritized roadmap that aligns with BMO Commercial and BMO's overall strategic objectives.
  • Data Sourcing: Collaborate with the Data Engineering and Model Operations team to source data required for model development and operations.
  • Solution Development: Develop solutions appropriate to the problem statements, in partnership with stakeholders, to ensure that solutions integrate optimally with business processes.
  • Governance Compliance: Work with the Sr. Manager, Strategy and Governance to ensure that various governance requirements are met, including but not limited to Responsible AI, Model Validation, Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance requirements.
  • Model Validation: Prepare the appropriate artifacts to fulfill the bank’s Model Validation and Model Risk Management requirements, when required.
  • Oversight and Monitoring: Along with the Data Engineering and Model Operations team, provide oversight and ongoing monitoring over deployed analytical assets and models, take appropriate action when required, and support inquiries from model users, leadership, and 2nd line groups.
  • Advanced Analytics: Use data mining and extracting usable data from valuable data sources to assess the feasibility of AI/ML solutions for improved processing and usage of organization data.
  • Large-scale Analysis: Conduct large-scale analysis of information to discover patterns and trends by combining different modules and algorithms.
  • Recommendations: Use analysis to provide recommendations and advice for business leaders to maintain market competitiveness.
  • Prediction Systems: Develop prediction systems and machine learning algorithms.
  • Innovative Solutions: Investigate additional technologies and tools for developing innovative data solutions for business stakeholders.
  • Data-driven Decision Making: Collaborate with the product team and partners to understand and provide data-driven decision making, business planning, and future roadmap.
  • Culture and Values: Foster a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values, and strategy, and role model BMO values and behaviors in all that they do and ensure alignment between values and behavior that fosters diversity and inclusion.

Salary:

$124,200.00 - $231,000.00

Pay Type:

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards. BMO also offers health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
