Job description

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Director, FP&A to lead financial planning and analysis for a well-capitalized junior mining company in British Columbia. The company is advancing a large-scale mineral development project and has significant capital in place to support its next stage of growth. Reporting directly to the CFO, this newly created role will build and lead the FP&A function. You will create the planning tools, reporting structure, and business partnerships needed to help leadership make informed decisions about capital, costs, and priorities.

This is an opportunity to build a function from the ground up, work closely with senior leadership, and shape how a growing organization plans, budgets, and allocates capital.

Responsibilities
  • Build and own the company's budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Lead the annual budgeting cycle and coordinate input from corporate, operational, and site teams.
  • Develop financial models for forecasting, scenario analysis, capital planning, and strategic decisions.
  • Turn transaction-level financial data into clear reporting and decision-ready insights.
  • Partner with operational and site teams on planning, cost tracking, and changing capital requirements.
  • Analyze spending, budget variances, and financial performance for the CFO and executive team.
  • Develop KPIs, dashboards, and management reporting to track performance against plan.
  • Support the CFO with capital planning and reporting for major project expenditures.
  • Provide financial analysis for financings, strategic transactions, corporate development initiatives, and capital markets activities.
  • Support investor-facing reporting and materials as required.
  • Improve FP&A systems, processes, and tools as the organization grows.
  • Build and lead an FP&A team over time as the function expands.
Requirements
  • 10-12+ years of progressive FP&A or corporate finance experience, including experience at a senior FP&A or Director level.
  • Proven experience building or scaling an FP&A function in a company at a similar stage of growth.
  • Strong financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to build planning processes, reporting tools, and financial structures from the ground up.
  • Experience working with accounting systems and turning financial data into useful planning and reporting information.
  • Experience in mining, natural resources, major capital projects, or another capital-intensive industry is a strong asset.
  • CPA designation preferred. CFA designation is also an asset.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to work effectively with non-finance teams.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership in an evolving organization.
  • Able to work a hybrid schedule from a Metro Vancouver office, with a minimum of three days per week in-office.
  • Able to travel periodically to the company's project site.
Remuneration
  • Base salary of $175,000-$200,000, based on experience.
  • Short-term incentive with a target of 20%-25%.
  • Long-term incentive with a target of 25%-30%, delivered through an equity program that vests over two years.
  • Competitive extended benefits package.
