Nature and Scope
The Director, Financial Reporting is responsible for overseeing and managing SIIT's budgeting processes and financial reporting functions. This position involves coordination and management of the annual budget cycle, ensuring the accuracy and compliance of financial reports, and providing financial analysis that supports decision-making and long-term planning. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.
General Accountability
The Director, Financial Reporting will be responsible for managing the Institute's budgeting, financial analysis, and internal and external reporting functions, as well as providing financial planning, analysis, reporting and advisory services internally to the executive team and SIIT managers.
The position's primary responsibilities are to manage and direct budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and internal and external reporting functions. The incumbent will oversee the establishment of financial work plans, procedures, and reporting systems, and is responsible for supervision of the financial reporting team. The position works with highly sensitive and confidential information. The Director, Financial Reporting will balance tight deadlines and competing priorities, and the work environment requires constant monitoring, review, and approval of information to mitigate the risk of costly errors. The Director ensures that budgeting and reporting activities comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as the legal and contractual requirements. Required Qualifications and Experience: A degree or post graduate degree in Business/Accounting and a professional accounting designation (CPA) are required. A minimum of six years of senior financial experience is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel including managing data with tables, manipulating data with pivot tables, and presenting with charts is required. Proven experience in accounting, financial reporting and analysis, and a solid understanding and experience in budget creation and financial planning is required. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset. Experience working in a post-secondary institution, with knowledge of provincial and federal reporting and compliance would be an asset. Strong interpersonal and people management skills, a collaborative style and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels is necessary. As an employee in the Finance department, this position is subject to accept or handle monies on behalf of SIIT. Therefore, a cleared criminal record check (CRC) is required.
