About the Position :

Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance, the Director, Finance supports major initiatives in finance, accounting, investments, and treasury. The role provides leadership to the team on daily operations, contributes to strategy setting, prioritization, and liaising with other departments and vendors. The Director will proactively monitor team outputs, ensuring compliance and timely reporting.

This position will cover the Senior Director, Finance and Controller during periods of absence.

Key Responsibilities :
  1. Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and compliance.
  2. Drive automation projects, including process automation and KPI dashboards.
  3. Review or prepare analyses on technical accounting and tax matters.
  4. Lead the FP&A team in budgeting, forecasting, and report development.
  5. Collaborate on budget assumptions and financial planning scenarios.
  6. Develop and monitor the finance department’s annual budget.
  7. Contribute to risk management and audit processes.
  8. Oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, and development of direct reports.
  9. Support organizational projects and foster a culture of innovation and teamwork.
  10. Develop annual plans aligned with strategic goals and industry best practices.
  11. Support financial policy development and compliance.
  12. Build relationships across the organization to ensure effective financial procedures.
  13. Contribute to strategic financial reporting and data analysis.
  14. Prioritize training and leadership development.
  15. Demonstrate commitment to BC SPCA values, work-life balance, and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.
  16. Promote a culture of innovation, teamwork, and agility.
  17. Support workplace health, safety, wellness, and volunteerism.

Investing & Treasury (5%) :
  • Monitor cash flow forecasts and support investment decision-making.
Qualifications :
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) required, with at least 10 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in a senior management or controller role.
  • Experience with non-profit fund accounting and CRA reporting.
  • Knowledge of financial risk management and project management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience with change management, data, technology, and automation.
  • Foundational investing knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and organizational values.
