Responsibilities

• Present quarterly results to senior management.
• Coordinate with service providers to ensure timely, accurate information.
• Review valuations of fund investments quarterly.
• Analyze accounting packages for entities, including tax financials.
• Prepare internal and external audit requests and maintain control documentation.
• Manage and review capital calls from, and distributions to, investors.
• Assist with fund operations, including liquidity management, investor queries, forecasting and compliance.
• Understand legal structure of funds and impact on fund flows and consolidation.
• Assist with analysis of complex accounting issues including new acquisitions.
• Provide oversight on reporting improvements and coach team members.
• Special projects & ad hoc requests as required.

Position Overview

Our client is a highly successful Canadian asset management firm with an expansive global and national platform. The firm invests in a variety of long-lived asset classes held through a growing portfolio of private funds and operates publicly listed entities.

They are currently seeking a Director, Finance to lead a team focused on their open-ended infrastructure investment funds. Reporting to the VP, the Director will drive investment finance and reporting for their flagship fund as well as other emerging funds under this strategy. The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable navigating a large, geographically diverse matrix organization, with strong leadership skills, excellent technical accounting skills, and a superior finance/accounting foundation.

Role Responsibilities

• Oversee quarterly reporting to investors and other users, including financial statements prepared in accordance with US GAAP – Investment Company Accounting and IFRS.
• Review of investor Partners’ Capital Statements (“PCAPs”) and available commitment schedules on a quarterly basis.
• Presentation of quarterly results to senior management.
• Overseeing the team’s interaction with various service providers to ensure information being provided is accurate and provided on a timely basis.
• Review valuations of fund investments on a quarterly basis.
• Analyze accounting packages for individual legal entities, including review of tax financials.
• Preparing internal and external audit requests and maintaining appropriate control documentation.
• Managing and reviewing capital calls from, and distributions to, investors.
• Assist with managing fund operations, including liquidity management, investor queries, forecasting and compliance.
• Thorough understanding of the legal structure of the various funds and the related impact on fund flows and consolidation.
• Assist with analysis of complex accounting issues that arise, including the structuring of new acquisitions.
• Provide oversight on any improvements to the reporting process and actively coach team members.
• Special projects & ad hoc requests as required.

Desired Qualifications

• University degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive work experience in finance and/or accounting functions.
• Experience in private funds and knowledge of the investment management industry, and dealing with complex ownership structures, would be an asset.
• Self-motivated and proactive, with respect to both managing workload and professional development.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability.
