Job summary

AECL is seeking a Director of Federal Programs and Nuclear Energy Strategy to unite policy, partnerships, programs, and strategy in support of government priorities and AECL’s nuclear mission. You will report to the VP and lead the Federal Programs portfolio, including integration with CNL and key government initiatives.

The role emphasizes strategic guidance, cross-agency collaboration, and risk-aware decision-making to advance Canada’s nuclear science and technology agenda.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, public administration, business, public policy, or related field.
• Significant experience in public policy, government relations, federal program management, or similar environment.
• Strong understanding of Government of Canada decision-making processes and policy landscape affecting nuclear priorities.
• Experience leading or overseeing complex government-facing programs and partnerships.
• Experience with federal departments, Crown corporations, laboratories, or related organizations.
• Ability to develop strategic advice and solutions supporting objectives.
• Proven ability to build relationships and manage diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Shape and advance AECL’s federal programs and contributions to Canada’s evolving nuclear landscape.
• Provide strategic leadership for AECL’s Federal Programs portfolio and integration of CNL.
• Coordinate cross-organizational initiatives and translate government directions into actionable strategies.
• Oversee contract and performance-related activities within assigned program areas.
• Build relationships with Indigenous communities, departments, agencies, industry, and partners to advance initiatives.
