Job description

Area(s) of interest: Capital Markets and treasury

As Director, Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Business Management within National Bank of Canada Capital Markets’ CIB group, you will be a senior partner to CIB leadership, responsible for advancing the business management and employee experience agenda across the franchise.

Working closely with senior executives, business leaders, Human Resources and internal partners, you will translate CIB priorities into coordinated initiatives that strengthen organizational effectiveness, leadership engagement and workplace experience within the Calgary CIB franchise and in collaboration across our offices nationally.

The role combines strategic business management with hands‑on execution, requiring strong judgment, executive presence and the ability to influence across a complex, fast‑paced organization.

Your Job
  • Act as a strategic business management partner to CIB senior leadership, supporting the execution of priorities related to organizational effectiveness, employee engagement and workplace experience.
  • Lead the development and execution of the CIB employee experience agenda, translating leadership priorities and employee feedback into measurable initiatives and outcomes.
  • Own and coordinate key CIB‑wide people and business management initiatives, including employee engagement, recognition, workplace programs, leadership events, town halls, offsites and other strategic forums.
  • Partner closely with Human Resources and CIB leadership on workforce priorities, organizational changes, talent initiatives, onboarding and other sensitive employee matters, exercising a high degree of judgment and discretion.
  • Oversee and continuously improve the executive and administrative support model, including leadership and development of the Executive Assistant community, service standards, resource allocation, succession and best practices.
  • Lead and develop a high‑performing team, establishing clear objectives, coaching senior and junior employees and creating development and succession opportunities across the function.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize and automate business processes, leveraging technology and data to improve productivity and the employee experience.
  • Establish appropriate governance, KPIs and reporting to measure progress across employee engagement, service delivery, employee experience initiatives and other areas within the mandate.
  • Lead cross‑functional projects requiring coordination across Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, New York and other CIB locations, ensuring consistent execution while recognizing local business requirements.
  • Build trusted relationships across CIB and with key partners throughout National Bank, acting as a connector across businesses and functions and proactively resolving issues that could affect execution or employee experience.
  • Represent CIB leadership on selected committees, working groups and enterprise initiatives relevant to the mandate.
Your Team

You will report to the Managing Director, CIB Corporate Development and Business Management and lead a broader CIB Business Management function, including responsibility for supporting employee engagement, workplace initiatives and business management activities.

The role operates provincially and requires close partnership with CIB senior leadership nationally, Human Resources, Corporate Communications, Corporate Real Estate, Technology and other Bank functions.

Success will require balancing strategic priorities with disciplined execution while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and judgment in matters involving senior leadership, employees and organizational decisions.

This role is onsite 5 days at the office.

Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management, Human Resources, Communications or a related discipline; an advanced degree or relevant professional designation is an asset.
  • 8–10+ years of relevant professional experience, ideally within financial services, professional services or another complex corporate environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading business management, employee experience, organizational effectiveness or strategic people initiatives.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, including demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop teams and manage through organizational change.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively with senior executives and multiple stakeholders, including experience influencing outcomes without relying solely on direct authority.
