Job description

Job Title: Volunteer Board Director

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara (BBBSN) is actively seeking dedicated individuals willing to contribute their time and expertise as volunteer Board Directors. As a Board Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our organization and supporting our mission of empowering young people through mentorship.

Since 1937, BBBSN has provided vulnerable youth with life-changing mentorship opportunities. Support from caring adult mentors helps youth develop skills and confidence to overcome adverse experiences and thrive.

We have a skills-based Board, and applicants with underrepresented skill sets will be considered preferred. We value diversity and strive to reflect our community at all levels.

Responsibilities:
  1. Strategic Leadership: Provide insight and guidance in developing and executing organizational strategies.
  2. Advocacy: Promote the importance of mentorship and support initiatives benefiting children and youth.
  3. Fundraising: Participate in efforts to ensure financial sustainability.
  4. Governance: Engage actively in meetings, committees, and board effectiveness.
  5. Networking: Use personal and professional networks to increase visibility and impact.
Qualifications:
  • A strong commitment to BBBSN's mission and values.
  • Ability to think strategically and support diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Experience in community involvement and advocacy.
  • Commitment to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Strong communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Reside or work in the Niagara region.
  • Leadership or governance experience is an asset.
Commitment:

Board Directors commit to a two-year renewable term, attending monthly meetings, participating in committees, and engaging in activities and fundraising. Estimated time commitment is 5-10 hours/month. Directors also commit to a monthly financial donation via Big Believers.
