Why this role is important?
Reporting to the Senior Director, Acquisitions & Business Development, the Director Acquisitions is responsible for the day-to-day planning and strategy of Acquisitions at Shoppers Drug Mart. The incumbent is responsible for providing direction to real estate, finance, legal and acquisition colleagues, to name a few, in developing sound processes, controls, and audit procedures that grow and expand strategic acquisitions in the company.
This role will play an important role in executing the growth and expansion Shoppers, working closely with senior leaders across the Enterprise.
Job Overview & Responsibilities
In collaboration with our subject matter experts from real estate and finance, the Director, Acquisitions has the responsibility to:
- Assist field acquisition colleagues with maintaining a pipeline of opportunities
- Facilitate the process to purchase strategically important opportunities
- Report on the performance of all transactions to various internal stakeholders
- Analyzes complex data related to select acquisitions and divestitures and determine the financial, operational and strategic fit within Shoppers
- Works with M&A team members, operations, and functional areas to increase value by making recommendations based on value drivers and value destroyers discovered during analysis and diligence of these strategic transactions.
- Prepares analysis to support weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting and post deal analysis to provide recommendations to both team members and operations with regards to tracking deal close milestones, including IT and Operational activities
- Monitor and evaluates the performance of acquisitions to ensure that business and commercial targets are being achieved and incorporated into future strategic planning
- Prepares presentations on historical deal analysis, trends, risk and returns
- Participates in due diligence reviews and provides detailed information and analysis from potential stores to be acquired including key facts/risks for discussion and mitigation as required
- Proactively identifies, prioritizes and optimizes process improvements of acquired stores
- Provides onboarding support for the first few weeks of acquisitions to ensure transition and conversion activities from a pharmacy systems and operations perspective is achieved
- Develops, maintains and continuously improves tools used in acquisition processes
- Coaching, mentoring, and training staff including reviewing work of other analysts, including field reps
Qualifications
- University degree in business, economics, healthcare, pharmacy or related field with an advanced degree preferred
- Project Management experience required (PMP an asset)
- 10+ years experience in strategy and/or business development roles within large, fast-paced organizations in healthcare, pharmaceutical and/or retail pharmacy
- Demonstrated experience adding transformational value to businesses, projects and teams
- Proactive and self-driven with a high degree of discipline and organizational skills is required to manage numerous overlapping projects and deadlines.
- Superior organizational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience with leading teams and organizing diverse functions to drive key business results
- Proficient at delivering results in high-pressure, high-stakes environments with the ability to set priorities and meet multiple challenging deadlines at the same time
- Strong thought leadership, intuition for business, tact and influence to lead in a matrix environment and work with diverse personalities and styles
- A creative thinker who is comfortable working with ambiguity, ability to multi-task, prioritize workload and work in a fast paced environment
- Experience negotiating partnerships and managing contracts and partner relationships with effectiveness
- Superior verbal and written communications skills to effectively synthesize and present persuasive presentations/documents at the Executive level and create agreement at all levels of the organization
- Advanced computer skills required in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to travel, when needed
