Why this role is important: Reporting to the Senior Director, Acquisitions & Business Development, the Director of Acquisitions is responsible for the day-to-day planning and strategy of acquisitions at Shoppers Drug Mart. The incumbent provides direction to real estate, finance, legal, and acquisition colleagues, developing sound processes, controls, and audit procedures to grow strategic acquisitions.

This role plays an important part in executing Shoppers' growth and expansion, working closely with senior leaders across the enterprise.

Job Overview & Responsibilities: In collaboration with subject matter experts from real estate and finance, the Director of Acquisitions has the responsibility to:

  1. Assist field acquisition colleagues with maintaining a pipeline of opportunities.
  2. Facilitate the process to purchase strategically important opportunities.
  3. Report on the performance of all transactions to internal stakeholders.
  4. Analyze complex data related to acquisitions and divestitures to determine strategic fit.
  5. Work with M&A teams, operations, and other functions to increase value based on analysis and diligence.
  6. Prepare reports and analyses on deal performance, risks, and trends.
  7. Participate in due diligence reviews, providing detailed information and analysis.
  8. Identify and optimize process improvements for acquired stores.
  9. Support onboarding of new acquisitions, ensuring smooth transition and operations.
  10. Develop and improve tools used in acquisition processes.
  11. Coach, mentor, and review work of staff and analysts.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in business, economics, healthcare, pharmacy, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Project Management experience (PMP preferred).
  • 10+ years in strategy or business development within healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or retail pharmacy.
  • Experience adding transformational value to organizations and projects.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience negotiating partnerships and managing contracts.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and ability to travel as needed.
