Job description

Job Overview

As Digital Communications Specialist, you “Take care of Banff” by maintaining timely, accurate and useful information for Banff residents and visitors on the Town of Banff’s primary information channels. Your experience in producing, editing and publishing web content that is accessible and informative would be applied every day, many times. Your talent for informative and engaging social media publishing and comment monitoring would advance the reputation of the Town, while keeping community conversations constructive and positive. Your ideas and insights into providing clear, plain language information and imagery will help enhance the channels in your control: web, microsites, e-newsletters, social media, display advertising, facility TVs and digital signage. As an experienced webmaster and content coordinator for social media campaigns, you excel in the latest publishing and analytics tools. You are tackling artificial intelligence problems of inaccuracy and “slop,” and investigating potential AI benefits from website scraping, large data analysis, and automating responses to frequent public questions. Your references attest to your obsessive attention to accuracy, and timely delivery of content. You are reliable and have been trusted to show strong independent judgement as the “voice” of an organization. You can work independently on your areas of responsibility while embracing team projects and strategic planning. You would rise to the responsibility to represent the interests of our respected municipality in providing information to our community of 10,000 people and 4 million visitors each year.

Key Responsibilities

This role is fast‑paced, high‑volume and frequently requires last‑minute tactics. The small Communications team responds to requests from multiple teams to promote programmes, services and calls to action, and you are an important agent in delivering news people can use. You use project management tools to keep content calendars on track, your colleagues updated, and you can pivot with emerging issues and assignments.

Working Conditions

The position works 35 hours per week and the annual salary is in the range of about $80,000 – $95,000, depending on knowledge and demonstrated experience. This position is well suited to a hybrid position with regular Zoom meetings and at least two days each week in the Banff office, in accordance with the Town’s hybrid benefit procedure.

  • short‑term and long‑term rental units to our employees. Housing units are based on availability and are not guaranteed.
  • hybrid work arrangements with regular Zoom meetings and at least two days each week in the Banff office, in accordance with the Town’s hybrid benefit procedure.
